The conical air filter increases the filtration surface area, dramatically improving airflow compared to the restrictive factory convoluted panel air filter system. Note that ALL Porsche 986 OEM intake systems are considered highly restrictive and limit airflow to minimize engine induction sound, negatively impacting performance.

Professional installation is advised due to the need to remove the factory air intake, which can involve either dropping the engine or simply cutting apart the restrictive OEM airbox system. The fastest method is often to break up the old intake system for removal and replace it with the Fabspeed 986 Maxflo system.
