Porsche carbide NSC electro-plating; cylinders are honed to LN Engineering specifications. Cylinders are stripped, re-plated, media blasted, and honed before going through our extensive QC procedure prior to shipping.

So why do we charge more than other shops for this service? Like our Nickies cylinders, 100% of cylinders we recondition are quality control checked by LN Engineering in-house and measured (6 pointed with precision Sunnen bore gauges) for ovality, taper, and surface finish (Rk, RpK, RvK using our Mitutoyo SJ-210) to ensure the best results on your rebuild. If you don't have the proper tools to correctly measure your cylinders - dial bore gauge, ring gauge, and profilometer, you don't know if you cylinders are correctly finished. Incorrectly refinished cylinders can cause rebuilt engines to smoke and consume excess oil. Other shops that offer nikasil cylinder reconditioning don't offer and can't provide the level of inspection that comes with having LN Engineering refinish your original Porsche cylinders.

Factory Porsche Mahle or Kolbenschmidt cast iron or cast aluminum alloy (aluminum Ferral/Chromal/Alusil/Nikasil) cylinders can be reconditioned; cylinders without sealing ring grooves can be bored oversized during the reconditioning process. Overbores and deck/sealing surface resurfacing extra.

If you have an aluminum cylinder that is damaged where there plating or coating is gouged, we can fix that too (for a small fee). With careful welding, we can build up the area and have the cylinder bored out and plated back to its original size.
